Manufacturer BlackBerry Face Steep Road


Research in Motion (RIM) faces a less encouraging developments. This BlackBerry handset manufacturers reported declining revenues amid intense pressure from its rivals.

In its financial statements on 15 September, RIM reported revenue of USD 4.2 billion in the second quarter of fiscal year 2012. This amount is reduced by 15% compared to the previous quarter.

Sales Playbook BlackBerry tablets also decreased. Tablets with QNX operating system is sold around 200 thousand units, from 500 thousand units in the previous quarter.

RIM's BlackBerry device recognizes the demand for the old version of slowing down. However, they claim that using the BlackBerry Bold 9900 OS 7 as sold well in the first week of marketing.

RIM Co CEO, Mike Lazaridis said sales Playbook is not as expected. But he remains optimistic that these tablets will reap success. Moreover, RIM is preparing a software update to improve the ability of Playbook. Then they also will bring the BlackBerry with OS QNX.

Although RIM continues to optimistic, some analysts said it faced a Canadian vendor nan steep road. Moreover, competitors, especially Android and the iPhone presents a strong challenge.

"Our records indicate slow sales of the handset OS 7 and we are confident the iPhone and Android will push RIM's cheap," said analyst Peter Misek of Jeffreries & Co., which quoted from eWeek, Sunday (09/18/2011).

Analysis of Goldman expects RIM's market share in the global smartphone market today is 9% in second quarter 2011, down from 16% in past year. Inevitably, RIM assessed should be wary of this trend.

"The decline in RIM's market share in North America continues to prolonged and we believe this trend is also spreading to international markets," said analyst Pierre Ferragu of Sanford C. Bernstein.
